What is a Picture Rail?

A picture rail is a decorative rail, traditionally used to hang pictures. However, the rails are now more commonly used for decorative purposes.

How Are Picture Rails Used?

Picture rails are traditionally used for displaying pictures around the room, due to the wedge along the top of the profile.

What are Picture Rails made from?

All of our MDF mouldings including our picture rails are made using high-quality, industrial-grade, moisture-resistant MDF. We have locally sourced suppliers, who deliver our boards daily. This allows us to manufacture your products, to the dimensions you choose quickly and efficiently.
If you opt for your picture rail to be painted, this is also done in our warehouse. The paints that we use are top standard and are sprayed proficiently by one of our expert spray technicians.

Where does a Picture Rail go?

In most cases, the picture rails are positioned between 300mm and 500mm from the ceiling. Typically, the taller the ceiling, the greater the distance will be from the ceiling. If you do have taller rooms, then picture rails are a great way to break up space in the wall.

How should I paint my Picture Railings?

In many cases, we have seen customers painting the railing and the wall above it the same colour, contrasting with the bottom section of the room. Alternatively, and more traditionally, customers keep the picture rail white (You can order it pre-finished in white gloss, satin or eggshell) and paint the walls a different colour.
